The Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Department maintains a highly trained Special Response Team (S.R.T). These are sworn deputies with the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Department that train a minimum of sixteen hours per month in special skills and tactics. The S.R.T. Members must be certified through the Louisiana P.O.S.T. Standards of Training, satisfactorily completed a certified academy, and have at least one year of Law Enforcement experience to be eligible for the team. S.R.T. Members must complete a sixty hour Basic S.W.A.T. Course then begin a six month probation period prior to team member status. These deputies are trained in multiple tactical skills and equipment to carry out their mission with the best result.
    The mission of the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Department Special Response Team is to react to critical incidents throughout Vermilion Parish such as Hostage Rescue, Barricaded Subjects, and High Risk Warrant Service. It is also the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Department Special Response Team’s mission to assist any Law Enforcement Agency in these situations upon their request.
